Light Mode

Dark Mode

Pitch Video

Brief

To work together in a team to create a collection of static wallpapers that will be used as part of an OS update within the Windows platform.

Create a light and dark mode version of each wallpaper. One of the wallpapers will include subtle elements of motion to bring the image to life.

The Pitch

For this pass, our team referenced our brainstorming ideas. Playing around in Cinema4D's splines, textures, and lights.

01

Abstract Exploration

Creating abstract imagery to explore and build a unique environment. Using splines to make surreal abstract "sculptures".

The image presented is in the Dark Mode.

02

Windows of Exploration

This direction utilizes the Windows logo as a way of seeing things differently. Distortion within the window will create contrast and open opportunities for dynamic animation.

The image presented is in the Light Mode.

From our pitch we were told to either move forward with the Window's of Inspiration or to experiment more for our next pass.

Experiment

00

Abstract Geometry

During this project we created a couple different tests and the image shown on the right was an interesting one we also presented during our Pitch as we thought the shapes were interesting.

First Pass

For this pass, our team decided to take a step back and experiment more as we were not quite satisfied with our previous directions.

01

Dusk & Dawn

Using the Windows logo as a light source illuminating the surrounding abstract modern architecture.

Modern architecture gives the audience an opportunity to embrace new ideas and reflect on changes in the world and our lives differently.

This reflects the ideologies Windows puts forth into their community.

The image presented is in the Dark Mode.

02

Percision

Using abstract imagery and depth to explore and build a unique layered environment.

This reflects the ideologies Windows puts forth into their community.

Using abstract imagery and depth to explore and build a unique layered environment.

The animation will play with light and shadows, revealing the Windows logo.

03

Socially Intertwined

Entwined wires are used to represent the connectivity between Windows and their target audience.

A twisting animation will enhance the viewer’s perception of the “Socially Intertwined’ concept.

The image represented is the Light Mode.

04

Hive Mind

Representing the individuals that make Windows the strong company it is. Each disk is made up of thousands of fragments to show the reach of Windows community.

The animation will subtly envelop the viewer creating a striking visual interest.

The image representing is in Dark Mode.

Second Choice

This concept was fun and playful, yet we wanted to reach out to a wider demographic and create a piece with a bit more meaning.

This direction is from our First Pass and one direction that we could have moved forward with. We enjoyed the potential of this direction, yet we felt that this was straying too far from what we wanted the rebranding of Window's to be.

Second Pass

This is the first pass we created with animation. Due to the way we built the piece we experienced some challenges which led us to using the window's logo as the light source - guiding the way for the new window's rebrand.

This pass was passable, however some further improvements were decided upon. Such as adjusting the timing overall.

Third Pass

This pass explored using the lights for a longer period of time.

The above revisions were working. Taking the previous critique to make the overall piece longer to have more time to breathe with the wallpapers.

Final Pass

Below are the final deliverables for this piece. Overall, this project was very fun to create and it was extremely exciting to have the opportunity to present our work to Future Deluxe and hear their feedback!
